Washington, D.C. (January 17, 2018) – The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) joins its Corporate and Coalition Members to promote the vital role DREAMers play in the nation’s economy. Over 800,000 DREAMers are part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, are currently working, paying taxes, and pursuing the American Dream in Corporate America, and at least 72% of the top 25 Fortune 500 companies employ DACA workers according to studies.
“As a national organization whose mission is to advance Hispanic inclusion in Corporate America, that includes DACA inclusion,” said Cid Wilson, President and CEO of HACR. “DACA recipients are making significant positive contributions to our nation’s economy and should be allowed to continue doing so without fear of losing their status or deportation from the only country they have ever known, the United States of America.”
“It is important that Congress fix DACA so that the recipients can continue to make a positive difference in our economy while simultaneously allowing Corporate America to continue hiring and employing these talented young leaders,” said Ignacio Salazar, Board Chairman of HACR. “We thank the many corporations who have publicly affirmed their support for DACA.”
DACA recipients are legally working across multiple industries, with 28 percent going into STEM jobs, which are vital to the future of growing fields such as the tech sector, engineering, and medicine. An additional 44 percent of DREAMers are currently pursuing degrees in colleges and universities. 91 percent of DACA recipients are currently employed with five percent of them starting their own businesses and creating jobs for Americans. Overall, these DACA recipients will contribute nearly $500 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product over the next ten years.
